WTMA Fairness and Validity
The WTMA was designed to be fair to women and to persons from various cultural backgrounds and especially to persons from various socioeconomic groups. Older mechanical aptitude tests on the market cannot make this claim and are flawed in this regard.
The validity of the WTMA has been investigated and substantiated in several ways. The content of the test has been shown to reflect the job tasks of many jobs that involve the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment of various types. The test has been shown to predict job performance in a number of such settings. The test has been shown to measure much the same content of classic (but now dated) tests of mechanical aptitude.
